VOKS, mixed choir - Prague (Volné komorní sdružení) VOKS was created in 2001. It comprises of singers of all ages and professions. The repertoire focuses on no particular period or style; we sing music of all periods, although usually romantic or later. The music is not strictly a-cappella, we cooperate with many instrumentalists and orchestras. Our repertoire includes pieces by serious writers of serious music as well as many folk songs from around the world. In its time, VOKS has sung at our own concerts of varying repertoire both in the Czech Republic and abroad, at professional music festivals and beneficiary events, it even sung for Czech Radio and Czech TV. In June 2004 we qualified into the finals of the international competition Svátky písní v Olomouci. In 2005 we signed up for the Pražské dny sborového zpěvu competition where we ranked second in the mixed adult choir category, and received a special jury prize for our interpretation of folk songs. We recorded the Mass in C Minor by Vierne and the Requiem by Horák for Czech Radio 3 – Vltava. In 2006 the choir recorded its first CD, which is a collection of European and South-American carols. Ever since our beginnings, we have been led by Martina Spiritová-Kvěchová as choirmaster. The major pieces we had in our repertoire include Requiem by Fauré, Mass in C Minor by Vierne, Mass for four voices by W. Byrd, Elijah by Mendelssohn, Requiem by Horák, Christmas Motets by Poulenc, Magnificat by Pärt and many others.
